Families will have an opportunity to receive free pediatric vision screenings during a community event hosted by the Lions Club, Heart of the Hills and Caritas Family Assistance Network on Saturday, June 13.
The screenings will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Heart of the Hills Mom Center. No appointment is required, and families may walk in during the event.
The free vision screenings will be available for children ages 5 months through 12 years old.
According to organizers, trained Lions Club members will conduct the screenings using Plus Optix, a binocular vision screening tool designed to detect vision deficits and risk factors in young children. The screening process takes only a few seconds and can be used for infants as young as 5 months old.
Organizers said early detection of vision problems is important for healthy child development and meeting developmental milestones.
Children who do not pass the screening will receive a referral for follow- up care with a medical provider. Families also will be connected with available resources and assistance programs.
The event is being coordinated through a partnership between the Lions Club, Heart of the Hills and Caritas Family Assistance Network.
