Fredericksburg Police responded to 492 calls for service and made 209 traffic stops between Monday, May 18 and Sunday, May 24.
Arrests
On Tuesday, May 19, at 2:36 a.m., a patrol officer responded to South Washington Street and East Main Street for a reported assault but the male subject had left the scene. A Gillespie County deputy located the man in the 400 block of East Main Street. The man smelled strongly of alcohol and was determined to be intoxicated. Garet Reeves Swinford, 28, from El Dorado, TX, was arrested for public intoxication and assault causing bodily injury.
On Wednesday, May 20 at 8:57 p.m., a patrol officer stopped a vehicle at East Highway and South Eagle Streets for a traffic violation. The female driver, Justine Renee Morin, 27, from New Braunfels, was arrested for an active out-of-county warrant for cruelty to animals.
On Thursday, May 21 at 8:58 p.m., a patrol officer stopped a vehicle at East Main Street and Industrial Loop. With the consent of both the driver and passenger, a search of the vehicle was conducted, during which narcotics were located. San Antonio resident Kitt Paige Kilpatrick, 47, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
On Saturday, at 10:40 p.m., a patrol officer was dispatched to the 600 block of Bluebonnet for a reported trespassing. Officers arrived and talked to a man in a vehicle. He was found to have an active criminal trespass warning for that location. Eddie Daniel Martinez, 28, of Fredericksburg was arrested for criminal trespass.
On Saturday, May 23 at 2:58 a.m., a patrolling officer saw a man who appeared to be intoxicated in the 400 block of East Main Street. Murphy Dewaine Henry, 50, of Big Springs was arrested for public intoxication.
A little while later at 3:25 a.m. on Saturday, an officer was dispatched to West Austin Street and North Adams Street to investigate reports of a suspicious person. The caller who reported the individual was located described a man who had been sleeping nearby and then left. The man was located in the 100 block of North Adams Street, sleeping near the bridge. Mathew John Rose, 28, from Nampa, Idaho, was arrested for public intoxication.
On Sunday, May 24, at 2:34 a.m., an officer saw a man try to cross the street in the 100 block of North Lincoln Street. The man was described as unsteady. After contact was made and the man was found to be intoxicated, Mason Jennings Jones, 21, from Burnet was arrested for public intoxication.
Also on Sunday at 4:19 a.m., a patrol officer was dispatched to the 500 block of East Main Street for a suspicious person. The man smelled of alcohol and had trouble remembering what room he was staying in. Burnet resident Lew Laidler, 19,was arrested for public intoxication.
Fraud
On Sunday, May 18, an officer met with a person who reported that an unknown individual was attempting to extort money from their family member by threatening to distribute images on social media. The officer advised the complainant not to send money or provide personal information. A report was made for documentation only.
Also on Sunday, an officer spoke with someone who made a report after receiving an email which appeared to be from PayPal regarding a recent purchase. The person called the number provided to dispute the charge and gave personal information. It was later discovered that $1,000 had been withdrawn from their PayPal account. The officer advised the complainant to block all contact.
On Wednesday, May 20, an individual reported that an unknown person had opened a checking account in their name.
On Wednesday, an officer spoke with a person who received a call from someone claiming to represent a computer security company. The caller told the person that their computer was running slow and offered a refund of $349. Instead, $34,900 was deposited from an Australian bank, and the complainant was instructed to send half back in cash. The person sent the funds via UPS to a location in Alhambra, California. A report was made and forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Division for further investigation.
On Friday, May 22, an officer spoke with a person who reported that a family member’s credit card information had been provided to an unknown party. No money was lost but the person needed a report number for their bank.
Theft
On Friday, May 22, an officer spoke with a complainant regarding a theft at the 1400 block of East Main Street. The complainant stated they requested cash back during checkout but left without receiving it.
On Saturday, May 23, an officer was dispatched to 200 block of East Main Street for a possible theft. After investigation, it was determined no theft had occurred.
