City’s ‘Citizen University’ applications due Monday

The next class of Fredericksburg Citizen University is open for enrollment just one more week.

Applications for the next class are being accepted until Monday, Dec. 8.

The program, sponsored by the City of Fredericksburg, aims to give residents the opportunity to become familiar with the structure, functions and activities that take place within local city government. It encourages residents to get more involved in local government processes and enhances their ability to communicate effectively with city officials.

This year’s Citizen University will consist of 11 sessions over 11 months with a graduation recognition held at the December 2026 City Council meeting. To be recognized, citizens must attend at least eight of the 11 sessions.

The sessions will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026. They are scheduled for 6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Monthly sessions will last around 90 minutes and include snacks and drinks.

Applicants must be registered voters within the Fredericksburg city limits, have been a resident for at least one year and not be running for local political office during class time.

Applications can be completed online at fbgtx. org/1199/Fredericksburg-Citizen-University.
