Ninth annual Hill Country Film Festival will screen at Fritztown

Movie lovers and filmmakers will begin arriving in Fredericksburg this week for the ninth annual Hill Country Film Festival (HCFF) this Thursday through Sunday, April 26-29. The festival headquarters will be at Fritztown Cinema, 2254 U.S. 87 South.            HCFF organizers said 15 feature

Movie lovers and filmmakers will begin arriving in Fredericksburg this week for the ninth annual Hill Country Film Festival (HCFF) this Thursday through Sunday, April 26-29.

The festival headquarters will be at Fritztown Cinema, 2254 U.S. 87 South.           

HCFF organizers said 15 feature films and 73 short films will be screened this weekend. Films from nine countries will be represented.

HCFF will feature “Dance Hall Days,” a documentary on Texas dance halls, at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, April 26. The documentary will feature Fredericksburg’s Turner Hall.

“Daughters of the Sexual Revolution: The Untold Story of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders” by Dana Adam Shapiro, will be screened at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, April 28. The documentary features interviews with Suzanne Mitchell, the first director of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and a Fredericksburg retiree before her death in 2016.

The film festival will feature short films by university and high school students. Two Fredericksburg High School seniors’ films were selected to be screened.

Panel discussions and social events are scheduled throughout the weekend.

Evening events will be held at Ausländer Biergarten and Restaurant and West End Pizza Company. The event’s awards program will be held the Admiral Nimitz Museum Ballroom.

A Sunday send-off and panel discussion will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 29 at Pedernales Cellars.

All access badges, film passes and individual tickets may be purchased online at www.hillcountryff.com or at Fritztown Cinema. Individual tickets are subject to availability during the festival.

Film Affäre

Film Affäre, an annual  fundraising dinner for the Hill Country Film Society, will be held Wednesday, April 25 at Hoffman Haus with a five-course meal and scenes from movies that feature food.
