Fredericksburg EMS Director David Jung and volunteer fire captain Romney Kowert picked up this $200,000 new brushfire truck on Wednesday, Jan. 28 in West. The Fredericksburg VFD purchased the chassis and city and county funds paid for the water tank, pump and bed in the back of the truck. While driving the new vehicle with no decals to Fredericksburg, Kowert noticed a pickup burning next to a house. Kowert and Jung turned around and drove to the location of burning vehicle just outside of Kempner. They extinguished the fire in the truck saving the house from burning, according to Fire Chief Lynn Bizzell. “The Kempner Volunteer Fire Department was surprised when they arrived on the scene and the fire was close to extinguishment by a brush truck from Fredericksburg,” Bizzell said. “Once a firefighter always a firefighter helping others in need.”
