Recent rains came just in time for our spring gardens, wildflowers and livestock. However, we are still under a burn ban. Be a conscientious neighbor and don’t burn. Thanks to everyone who worked the Duderstadt fire. Your effort to keep our community safe is beyond words. We are grateful.

There is a lot of community concern about the proposed Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) coming to Harper. There are concerns about fires, toxic gases and water contamination. If you want to learn more, follow Texas Rural Community Alliance on Facebook.

Harper Community Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Non-Profit Expo on Tuesday, April 15, from 5:30-7 p.m., at Gitter Hall behind St. Anthony Catholic Church. If your organization serves Harper, you are invited to participate. Harper families are invited to attend to learn more about the organizations that serve our community. Light refreshments will be served and door prizes awarded. Send an email to anita.braun@me.com for more information.

Fresh produce can now be found in Harper. Branded Meat Market carries fresh produce and Waldo’s has a new produce case.

Harper Farmers Market and Turnin’ and Burnin’ BBQ are at Branded Meat Market every Friday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Prize drawing tickets are on sale now for the 19th Annual Mother’s Day Fish Fry and Prize Drawing at St. Anthony Catholic Church. The drawing will be held at the fish fry on May 11.

Headwaters for Heroes is sponsoring the 13th Annual Sporting Clay Shooting Tournament, Saturday, April 12, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., at Joshua Creek Ranch. For more information, contact Lynn Withers, 830-864-4096.

Harper Independent School District is sponsoring a blood drive on Tuesday, April 22. Schedule your donation at https:// donor.southtexasblood.org/…/ drive_schedule/146888 The second annual Cowboy Gala will be held Saturday, April 26, at the Harper Community Hall, 211 Pioneer Park. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Harper Expo Center project to cover the rodeo arena. A social begins at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 7. Tickets are limited. Purchase by April 12 by contacting Diane Wetz at 830-739-4883.
