FHS track teams bring home gold medals

The Fredericksburg High School varsity boys’ track and field team captured first place at the Marble Falls Track and Field Meet on Feb. 27, at Marble Falls High School.

The Fredericksburg High School varsity boys’ track and field team captured first place at the Marble Falls Track and Field Meet on Feb. 27, at Marble Falls High School.

FHS accumulated a total of 166 points to claim first place as a team. Lago Vista finished in second place with a total of 117 points.

“Great first meet, we were excited about winning in the varsity division and proud of the way we won points in all phases of the competition,” Head Coach Jason Roemer said. “Field events started the day strong and that momentum carried over to the running. We had some great performances from multiple athletes. We will need to continue that in order to compete for a district championship.”

George Stenberg took first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.24 seconds. Omar Neri finished in 10th place. Victor Hernandez, Mason Mazurek, Roger Tekulve, Todd Daviss and Jacob Bustillos rounded out runners in the dash.

Stenberg took second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.39 seconds. Van Carter earned points in fifth place finishing with a time of 25.25. Eli Osorio, Jackson Moellendorf, Luke Fuchs and Jacob Bustillos rounded out participants.

Jack Whittington won the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.05 seconds. Emmitt Harper took sixth place with a time of 53.81. Larry Jones and Yair Hernandez rounded out team players.

Jose Ruiz took first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.41. Cody Helmers finished third with a time of 2:15.03.

Derek Adams finished in fourth place in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:37.10. Alfredo Rodriguez and Ivan Cop also participated.

Adams also placed fourth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:04.22.

Fuchs took second place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.63 seconds.

The 4×100 meter relay team took first place with a time of 43.07 seconds. The relay team consisted of Luke Harkleroad, Emi Sanchez, Asher Burdett and Stenberg.

The 4×400 meter relay team placed second with a time of 3:29.06. Burdett, Harper, Sanchez and Whittington were the four runners in competition.

Rylan Kovar took second place in the high jump with a distance of 6-2 and Koehn Constantine was not far behind in third place with a jump of 6-0.

Constantine placed second in the long jump with a mark of 20-1. Hernandez placed fifth and Whittington took sixth place and he also placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 40-4.5.

Constantine and Burdett tied for third place with a pole vault mark of 11-6.

John Rojas dominated in the discus throw with a distance of 121-7. Isaiah Villa placed second with a mark of 117-11.

Rhett Ayala won the shot put with a distance of 42-5.5. Chris Gloria and Rojas placed just outside of the top six.
