The Fredericksburg High School competition cheer team took home 10th place at the 4A-Division 1 UIL State Spirit Championships on Friday, Jan. 17.
At Friday’s awards ceremony, the team was called as sixth place. Later, teams were informed of scoring errors, which affected multiple teams.
“During the drafting of the awards script for the 4A Division 1 State Championships, incomplete results were inadvertently referenced, unfortunately leading to an incorrect announcement of the final team placements during the awards ceremony,” a spokesperson for UIL said.
“While the championship and runner-up teams were unaffected, other placement — including third place — were impacted. We deeply regret this mistake and sincerely apologize for the confusion and disappointment it has caused.”
Despite the change in place, coach Jodi Wilder said she was proud of the team’s performance and hard work throughout the season.
“True champions emerge not just from victory, but from the unwavering bond of a team and coaches who believe in them,” Wilder said. “Our girls worked hard since August, competed with all heart, and continued a legacy of excellence that has made their coaches, school and community proud again by earning another top 10 spot in 4A-Division 1 schools in the UIL Spirit State Championship.”
