Longhorns pick up second district win

The Harper Longhorns basketball team picked up its second district win of the season after besting Johnson City, 51-39, last Friday at Johnson City High School.

“We had a great team effort tonight,” Head Coach Shawn Spaeth said. “We had to. Our free throw shooting was horrible. We were 8-of-24 from the free throw line. We played good defense and drove to the basket hard, but we failed to capitalize over and over again.”

William Spaeth and Justin Wilke scored 12 points each. Jaylon Wilson added 11 points.

Wilke contributed 10 rebounds to attain a double-double.

Markhas Rose collected 12 rebounds for the Longhorns.

Wilson forced four turnovers off of four steals.

Harper is 10-12 overall and 2-1 in district play.

Up next

Harper will have played Center Point Tuesday with full results expected in next week’s paper.

Next, Harper will host San Saba at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Harper High School.

The Longhorns are home again when they play Junction at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Harper High School.
