New year brings new acreage reporting deadlines

Reporting deadlines through The Farm Service Agency for forage disaster assistance programs for farms and ranches in Gillespie, Kendall and Blanco counties.

In order to comply with FSA program eligibility requirements, all producers are encouraged to file an accurate crop certification report by the applicable deadlines below: Jan. 2, 2025 – Beehives; Jan. 15, 2025 – Oats, grapes and clover; Feb. 15, 2025 – Wheat, barley and triticale.

The best time to report a planted crop is after the crop has been planted, according to the FSA.

It is important to report crops planted just for grazing. Grazed crops are eligible for Livestock Forage if they are reported to a local FSA office.

For questions regarding crop certification and crop loss reports, contact the Gillespie County FSA office, 1906 N. Llano St., Ste. 107, Fredericksburg, TX 78624 or 830-997-3453.

The county executive FSA director is Rick Neffendorf. He can be reached at 830-997-3453 Ext 2 or Ricky.Neffendorf@usda. gov.

The following exceptions apply to the above acreage reporting dates: If the crop has not been planted by the above acreage reporting date, then the acreage must be reported no later than 15 calendar days after planting is completed.

If a producer acquires additional acreage after the above acreage reporting date, then the acreage must be reported no later than 30 calendars days after purchase or acquiring the lease. Appropriate documentation must be provided to the county office.

If a perennial forage crop is reported with the intended use of “cover only,” “green manure,” “left standing,” or “seed,” then the acreage must be reported by July 15.

Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) policy holders should note that the acreage reporting date for NAP covered crops is the earlier of the dates listed above or 15 calendar days before grazing or harvesting of the crop begins.
