93rd Youth Livestock Show next weekend

Youth from Gillespie County FFA and 4-H clubs will have 764 animal projects and 11 ag mechanical projects at this year’s Gillespie County Youth Livestock Show/Auction, which runs Wednesday through Saturday (Jan. 1-4).

The 344 exhibitors will show livestock at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds Show Barn.

Officers for this year’s stock show and auction include Chip Bowers, president; John Eilers, vice president, and Heather Falting, secretary/treasurer.

Ex-officio directors include Patrick Padgett, Cory Rains, Emily Skaggs and Rocky Louthan, Fredericksburg FFA; Brad Roeder and Emily Grant, Gillespie County Extension Agents, and Tatum Christie and Wayne Hux Harper FFA.

Directors include Kade Burrow, Adam Geistweidt, Cody Beyer, Roy Sanders, Jed Eilers, Dennis Ellebracht, Rory Kneese, Barrett Jenschke, Buck Barnett, Wesley Reinhardt, Rhett Schladoer, Bartley Parker, Caleb Behrends, Kyle Kneese, Traé Ottmers and Michael Haag.

Schedule of Events Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025 10 a.m.-noon – Market Lambs, Meat Goats, Breeding Sheep and Angora Goats unload.

11 a.m. – Breeding Sheep/ Angora Goats on grounds.

Noon – Lambs and Meat Goats on grounds. Check in for Breeding Sheep and Angoras.

1 p.m. – Breeding Sheep Show and Angora Goat Show.

2-3 p.m. – Pick up Lambs-Meat Goats show packets at information table.

3 p.m. – Breeding Show ends. Weigh-Ins/classify for Market Lambs and Meat Goats.

4 p.m. – After weigh-In, Showmanship for Market Lambs senior-junior-beginner and Meat Goats juniorbeginner- senior.

6-8 p.m. – Cattle stall setup. (No cattle allowed in barn until scheduled time on Thursday).

Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025 6-8 a.m. – Weighing, sifting and sorting of Broilers and Turkeys with superintendent. Poultry will be caged after they have gone through sift and assigned pens.

7 a.m. – All Poultry must be in line. Pick up show packets during check in.

8 a.m. – Unloading of Ag Mech projects. A forklift will be available for unloading; Poultry show will begin with Turkeys and Broilers to follow and judging of Meat Goats.

10 a.m. – Judging of Market Lambs or after completion of Meat Goat Show.

3-5 p.m. – Cattle arrival. Cattle must be on the grounds by 5 p.m.

3-4 p.m. – Pick up Cattle Show packet at information table.

5 p.m. – Weighing and classifying of Steers and Heifers.

5-7 p.m. – Swine arrival. Swine must be on the grounds by 7 p.m.

6-7 p.m. – Pick up Swine packet at information table.

7 p.m. – Weighing and classifying of Swine.

7 p.m. – Deadline for Ag Mech projects to be set up.

Friday, Jan. 3, 2025

8 a.m. – Ag Mechanics Cutting Torch Competition with judging of projects to follow with awards presented 30 minutes upon completion.

8 a.m. – Judging of Swine. (Showmanship will be judged during Swine Show.)

Noon – Judging of Cattle Showmanship followed by Steer Show, then Breeding Heifers. No steers released until Heifer Show is over.

Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025 11 a.m. – Pre-Sale lunch for buyers.

Noon – Auction at Exhibition Hall at Gillespie County Fair Grounds.

Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025

1 p.m. – Clean up grounds for all exhibitors. Cleanup counts as attendance for meeting for an exhibitor’s organization.
