NATIONAL DRUG TAKEBACK DAY

NATIONAL DRUG TAKEBACK DAY

Fredericksburg Volunteers in Police Support member Marvin Guettler (left), Methodist Hospital spokesman Mike Sarubbi (center), and FPD Crime Scene Technician Ernest Debella (right) volunteered to man the Fredericksburg Law Enforcement Center drive-thru drop-off for this year’s National Drug Takeback Day Saturday, April 27. Sarubbi said people used to flush expired and unused medications down a toilet or toss them into the trash, where they’d end up in a landfill. “Those medications can get into the water table, and it can compromise the local water supply,” said Sarubbi. He said all the leftover medications collected that day were going straight to the incinerator. “It’s a safer method of disposal,” he said. – Standard-Post/A. Avila
