Cupid’s Bow Bash returns Feb. 12

The Rotary Club of Fredericksburg will host its annual Cupid’s Bow Bash on Monday, Feb. 12, with the theme “Cupid Goes To New York City.”

The event, which includes dinner, drinks, entertainment and a silent auction, will run from 6-9:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Holy Family Center, 306 W. San Antonio St.

Admission to this Valentine’s celebratory evening is open to the public and will feature live music from Bob Appel and his five-piece band.

A catered gourmet dinner provided by Vivere and an open beer and wine bar are included in the $90 ticket price. Tables for eight can also be reserved for $720.

Dress is “Valentine’s attire/western chic.”

Tickets to the event can be reserved by emailing cupidsbowbash@gmail.com.  Deadline to pay for tickets is Monday, Jan. 29.

“Cupid’s Bow Bash will be lively, fun and elegant,” said Fredericksburg Rotary Club President Mike Birdlebough. “This event features a great live band, catered dinner and a chance to dance, if you desire. The proceeds will benefit several wonderful causes, such as our area’s scholarships for local students, the Gillespie County Toys for Tots program, a Rotary project at schools in Tanzania, and youth literacy and reading programs. I recommend bringing a friend or joining together with several to reserve a full table.”

Auction items

Included in this year’s silent auction are items and experiences donated by businesses, including Longneck Manor, Los Cazadores, Orobianco, Foyt Winery, The Preserve, Fredericksburg Farms, Paws & Claws Pet Resort, Becker Vineyards, Fredericksburg Theater Company, Ewald Kubota, Fredericksburg Cast Iron Company, Good Foundations Fredericksburg, Doss Store and Country Kitchen and many more.

Food

Cupid’s Bow Bash begins at 6 p.m. with beverage service from an open wine and beer bar, followed by dinner served family meal-style.  Bubble Love, a specialty cocktail, will also be served.

On the menu for that evening is Fresh Romaine Heart and Arugula Salad with Toasted Pine Nuts, Shaved Asiago Cheese and Lemon Herb Vinaigrette; Bacon-wrapped Cranberry, Pecan, Apple and Cheese-stuffed Pork Tenderloin with Calvados Pan Sauce; Cheesy Potato Gratin with Thyme; Sauteed Green Beans with Balsamic Onions; and a Chocolate-dipped Cannoli with Pistachios and Pastry Cream for dessert.

Sugar cookies printed with scenes of New York City will be given as favors so guests can remember the special evening.

Entertainment

Following dinner, Country and Western artist Bob Appel and his band will take the stage.

A regular performer in the Hill Country area, including Austin’s legendary Broken Spoke, Northern California native Bob Appel has unlikely roots for a country singer.

Appel found the music of icons like Hank Williams, Faron Young, Ray Price, Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Buck Owens and Wynn Stewart.

He moved to Austin in 2010 and now performs at dance halls, festivals, markets, opry shows, honkytonks, beer joints and bars, bringing the musical traditions of times gone by to today.
