No Place like Home
This Victorian Carriage House at 312 E. Travis St. was a popular spot on the 64th Annual Historic homes Tour held Saturday and put on by the Gillespie County Historical Society. Owned by Melanie and Gary Wahrmund, the home still is an example of sturdy German craftsmanship from the town’s early days and retains most historical features, plus a few modern upgrades. — Standard-Radio Post/Ken Esten Cooke

The picture windows and heritage oak trees on the properties of the mid-century modern “Enchanted Oaks” at 705 N. Elk St. were just some of the upgrades done by owners Kathleen and Mark Bowles.

“Emmie’s Guest House,” owned by Jan Cox Dwyer, was the former home of Emmie Schroeder. Lindy Bierschwale Haley, left, and Laura Durr enjoy the 1933 structure with unique examples of archways and built-in features.
