Metzger, Davis, Smith win local races

Gillespie County voters spoke with a mostly unified voice on Election Day and during early voting to send a Republican slate of candidates to local and statewide offices.

Election results were completed at about 5:30 a.m. by County Clerk Lindsey Brown and her staff, who stepped in to fill election administrator office vacancies.

In the three contested area races, Jan Davis won the battle of write-in candidates for District Clerk. She finished with 3,790 votes (52.07%), while challengers April Wilke had 2,810 votes (38.61%) and Tara Burrer finished with 678 votes (9.32%).

Dana Smith handily won the County Treasurer’s race, finishing with 10,933 votes (92.43%) to challenger Terry D. Hamilton’s 895 votes (7.57%).

And in the Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4, race, Republican Todd Metzger won with 2,835 votes (83.6%) to Democratic challenger Jerry Sotello’s 556 votes (16.4%).

All results are unofficial until canvassing takes place at a later date.
