The Texas A&M University Singing Cadets brought their talents to Fredericksburg on Friday for a performance at First Baptist Church.
Director David Kipp guided the 63-voice group through two sets of songs, featuring sacred hymns, religious, Broadway, folk, novelty and, of course, school songs. The Singing Cadets were formed in 1893.
The stop was part of an 18-city tour around Texas this spring and the group performs more than 70 times each year.
Kipp said a 125th Anniversary Reunion and Concert will be held April 6 on the Texas A&M campus.
The concert was introduced by Bruce and Megg Campbell. Bruce Campbell performed with the Cadets in college and was a 1977 graduate.
Piano accompanist was Holly Moore.
Proceeds from the event went to fund the Gillespie County A&M Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Gillespie County who plan to attend Texas A&M. The 2019 recipients will be announced at the April 22 Aggie Muster.
This year’s group of cadets includes 2018 Providence Hall graduate David Wilkinson. He was raised in Fredericksburg by his mother, Barbara Wilkinson and grandmother, Mary Wilkinson.
