Longhorns hoping for 'great year' in 2017 baseball season

Despite losing six players from last year's team via graduation, Harper High School head baseball coach Scott Lake is optimistic about his 2017 Longhorn squad.

“I am looking forward to a great year,” he said, admitting, however, that “we have some holes to fill from kids that need to step up and take their place. We have a great group of young men that are dedicated to getting better.”

Shoring up last year's squad, which advanced to the UIL Region IV 2-A area round playoff game, will fall on the shoulders of a group of experienced underclassmen.

Lake said he expects the middle infield areas to be filled by Layne Holmes and Ben Lashley. The catching duties will be handled by Tate Hansen and Weston Clark.

Patrolling the outfield, Tracy Patterson is the player who will play centerfield. Another Longhorn who should see plenty of playing time in the outer areas will be Dylan Sivells, a player who moved up from the 2016 JV roster.
