FHS girls' hoops opens district with win

Earning their first Distrct 28-4A win of the season, the Fredericksburg High School varsity girls’ basketball team is ready for more.

Heading into the remainder of the season, the young team, boasts an 16-12 record overall and stand at 1-0 in district play.

“Every year our goal is fight for that district championship and I think even though we are a young team, I think it’s within reach,” head coach Carrie Grona said.

The Billies will travel to Bandera on Thursday, Jan. 11, at 6:30 p.m.

“Bandera will be a tough opponent,” Grona said. “I don’t know why but the last six years that I have been coach, every time we play them we are unaggressive.”

Grona expects the team to win by 20 points if they play right and are confident in their play.

Following, the Billies will return home on Tuesday, Jan. 16 for a game against Canyon Lake. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in the FHS gym.

“Canyon Lake and Boerne next week will be a big test for us and we have to be able to have two game plans and then be able to adjust on the fly,” Grona said.
