Experienced Eagles team ready for upcoming hoops season
Loaded with a line-up of nine returning lettermen from last year's team, the Heritage School boys’ varsity basketball team is looking for good things in the new season.
After all, the Eagles advanced all the way to the regional finals in the 2016-17 campaign.
These experienced players are senior captains Dillon Roberts, True Stephens, Dan Meek, Jackson Abel, and Lane Sawtelle. The rest of the veteran squad is made up of Will Cummings, Noah Given, Luke Roberts and Harley Pedregon.
Also ready for the season is Eli Oosterbaan, a keystone of last year's campaign.
According to Eagle head coach Clarence Stewart, one of the major goals for the new season includes talking “more on defense, fly around and apply lots of pressure on the opposing teams.”
To put it another way, Stewart believes that “a team that communicates the most wins the most.”
Heritage will play the season under the motto: “We Count It All Joy.”
When it comes to which district schools should be the toughest in the league this year, the coach is quick to respond — Spring Branch Living Rock and Bulverde Bracken Christian School.
Whether or not the Eagles will go long way in this year's post-season playoffs is yet to be seen. But don't be surprised it Heritage is still a force to be reckoned with when most other schools are just reliving memories of things that could have been.
