Billies boys' trailing in eighth at state golf tourney
Fredericksburg High School boys’ golf finished eighth place after Day 1 of the UIL Class 4A Golf State Tournament on Monday at Apple Rock Golf Course in Horseshoe Bay.
The Billies trailed tournament leaders Monahans by 46 strokes after Monday’s opening round of play.
“It was a very rough day for the Billies,” coach Tim Kaman said. “It was just one of those days where we were not as precise as we needed to be. Apple Rock is an incredibly difficult course, but one has to be very precise to score well. We did not have good control over our golf ball today.”
FHS is 29 strokes back from third place Bullard.
“All we can do is the best we can tomorrow, and hopefully somehow make up enough strokes to get on the medal stand,” Kaman said. “The most important thing going into tomorrow is just to play better, both mentally and physically.”
Denver Schneider led the Billies with a round of 81.
Broque Constantine, Chris Slater, Jaxon Langford and Dylan Slater rounded out FHS’ side.
