All-stars shining bright at sectionals

 

Junior Softball

Junior Softball remains undefeated as they beat Devine, 12-2, Thursday, July 7 in the opening round of sectionals. They went on to face Eagle Pass Friday night and took the win, 13-7.

The girls played Eagle Pass again on Sunday in the championship game and took the win with a score of 10-8, in Fredericksburg.

With the wins, the team is headed to the four-team state tournament in Abilene on Saturday, July 16 where they will play Lorena.

 

Senior Girls

In game one of the senior girls’ sectional tournament, the Hill Country All-Star Senior Girls won, 20-0, against North West Little League on Thursday, July 7.

The team used five pitchers throughout the game, and as a whole, completed the shutout in eight innings.

On offense, the team had nine hits. A.J. Davis contributed with three hits.

The team advanced to play Eagle Pass on Friday and won, 6-2.

Rose Stuewe, who showed great defense, pitched all seven innings for the win. The team also had three double plays that helped keep Eagle Pass off base.

Mia Torres contributed three hits to the 12 total hits made by the team.

The Senior Girls again faced Eagle Pass for the championship on Sunday night. The girls took the win, 6-4.

Emery Boettcher pitched all seven innings, with six strikeouts.

Mia Torres again led the team in hits with three. A.J. Davis had two hits, one of which was a home run.

The team advances to the state tournament where they will play Oil Belt of Corpus Christi at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 16 in Abilene.

The senior girls are undefeated so far this season.

 

Major Girls

Major Girls lost to Uvalde, 9-0, in six innings on Thursday, July 7 in San Antonio.

The team struggled offensively and defensively with only having four hits and five errors.

The team then faced Eagle Pass in the elimination bracket Friday night. The team was not able to come out with the win as they lost by a narrow margin to Eagle Pass, 4-3.

“The girls played hard and were in the game until the very end, the ball just did not bounce our way tonight,” said coach Brad Holland.

Avery Holland took the mound for all six innings striking out four with no walks.

Ashley Dressen, Ella Hartmann and Karlee Reyes added one hit each.

“We want to thank the kids for their hard work and their parents for their dedication to
getting the kids to all of the practices and games,” said Holland. “That is a large part of why we had a good season.”

 

Major Boys

Major Boys lost, 15-3, against Eagle Pass on Thursday, July 7 in San Antonio.

Blaine Edwards had two hits and one RBI, James Sebera had two hits and Logan Love had one RBI. The team made many errors offensively, which Eagle Pass took advantage of.

The team played again Friday against San Angelo Western. Fredericksburg took the loss, 9-0.

Sam Barron, Caleb Kruse and Blaine Edwards all contributed with one hit. Javi Rodriguez reached base at all three at-bats from being hit by a pitch twice and reaching on an error.

“I am incredibly proud of this team,” said coach Lance Love. “They won district, the first majors team in five years to do that, and represented our community well against stiff competition.”
