Horses back on track for weekend race meet

Horses will be back on the track on Saturday and Sunday, July 21-22, for two more days of live pari-mutuel racing at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds.

Sponsored by the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, the two-day meet is the second of four scheduled at the Class III track this summer.

Also taking place at the fair grounds on Saturday will be Night In Old Fredericksburg.

Both the races and the NIOF celebration are sponsored by the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association.

Gates open at 11 a.m. and post time for the NIOF Race Meet is 1 p.m. each day.

The racing program will include finals for the 2018 July Firecracker Futurity and the GCFA July Maiden Classic.

The 10 qualifiers for the 350-yard GCFA Maiden Classic include “Di Southeen James” (17.5695), “Ad Tres Coronas” (17.6320), “MS Famous Dash Back” (17.6795), “Kalis Fast Man” (17.6935), “Geh Ottyes Lil Tini” (17.6960), “Thebunnygoeson” (17.7150), “Timarred Special” (17.7385), “Kuhl Cash” (17.7475), “Tinys Desi” (17.7920) and “Alinas War Princess” (17.7960).

Total purse for the GCFA Maiden Classic is $48,300.

The 10 qualifiers for the 350-yard July Firecracker Futurity include “Bonita De Capi” (17.6005), “Dashingtobfamous” (17.6590), “Featuring Ivory” (17.7475), “Cadillac Cash” (17.9210), “Dashing Sweet Brujo” (17.9370), “The Action Queen” (17.9550), “Who He Me” (17.9555), “Catha” (17.9750), “Jet Black King” (17.9980) and “RJS Cosmo (18.000).

Total purse for the race is $84,250.


Coming up

The Gillespie County Race Meet is scheduled for Aug. 11-12 and the Gillespie County Fair Race Meet is Aug. 25-26.

The 130th Gillespie County Fair will be held Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 23-26. A concert and dance featuring Jake Hooker and The Outsiders will take place on Friday, Aug. 24.

Highlighting the entertainment on Saturday, Aug. 25, will be special guest star Steve Wariner, followed by Cory Morrow.

The fair will also include a parade, carnival and midway, agriculture and home products displays, livestock shows and more.

Professional bull riding returns to the Gillespie County Fair Grounds with the Fredericksburg PBR on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Rounding out the season will be the 22nd Annual Scholarship Fest on Saturday, Sept. 22.
