Let's not turn blind eye to China
With most of our energies focused on troublemakers in the Middle East, it can be easy to lose sight of the big picture in global geopolitics.
Last Friday’s Wall Street Journal had a story about a Chinese aluminum magnate who has manipulated markets and trade deals and could flood the market with cheap aluminum he has built up in Mexico.
That could further erode America’s manufacturing of that metal and related products.
Trade practices and potential pacts with this Far East giant should get extra scrutiny, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Many American manufacturers have been wooed by cheap labor in China and we have exported many a good middle-class job in the name of cheap goods.
