County fire crews battle two brushfires

Gillespie County fire fighters battled backto- back brush fires that consumed 214 acres and impacted six properties this week.

On Sunday, Feb. 8, multiple county fire departments were called to a brushfire on the Gillespie-Blanco county line, near the 5000 block of Althaus Davis Road, according to Emergency Management Coordinator Ashley Morris.

Travis County STAR Flight made helicopter airdrops and 16 agencies responded. The fire burned 175 acres, according to Round Mountain Volunteer Fire Department.

The following day, Monday, Feb. 9, crews were dispatched to northwest Gillespie County to fight a brushfire that lasted six hours and burned 39 acres.

“We did lose one nonresidential structure, and six properties were impacted,” Morris said at Tuesday’s commissioners court meeting.

Texas Forest Service provided an engine, a dozer and air support during the Barons Creek Fire.

The causes of the fire were yet to determined.
