We had never eaten shrimp before the mid-1950s. Then an older sister (Imogene) married and moved near Galveston. On one visit she fried shrimp, though I doubt our parents were impressed. My mother never cooked shrimp before the end of those fabulous ’50s and knew nothing of Creole flavors.
