The Singing Christmas Tree will be performed on Saturday and Sunday, December 6 and 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Pioneer Museum grounds at 325 W. Main Street. This year’s event will mark a decade of what has become a new Fredericksburg Christmas tradition.
“It all began with a dream of Regina Rosenwinkle to have a choir sing from a Christmas Tree, which is done frequently around the country but not so much outside in our December weather,” said Don Doss, the event’s musical director.
With the help of the Pedernales Creative Art Alliance and Mayor Jeryl Hoover, the steel reinforced tree structure was purchased, the choir rehearsed and the first Der Singende Weihnachtsbaum happened in 2016.
Since that time The Singing Christmas Tree has joined with the many Christmas traditions in the Fredericksburg community and continues to grow each year, Doss said.
All are invited and the event is free, although a contribution is appreciated to cover costs.
Some 80 singers join together and sing nearly every familiar Christmas song ever written while they stand in the well-constructed “tree” under Doss’s direction.
The concert is well-attended with over 400 listeners bringing their own chairs and blankets to enjoy the beautiful singing and is a highlight of the Christmas season.
“Don’t forget your lawn chairs and blankets,” Doss said. “This event is Christmas fun for the whole family. Come sing along and join our great audience.”
Doss encouraged all to arrive early to get a good seat.
