VFW receives $50,000 from King Foundation

Last week, King Foundation board member Jim Bennett, a Fredericksburg resident, presented a check to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7105 for its overall work with veterans and the community.

The King Foundation has provided almost $200,000 to Post 7105 over the past seven years, said Brig. Gen. Jim Bisson, post commander.

Bennett joined the King Foundation board several years ago and serves as secretary and treasurer. The Florida-based foundation was founded by Ernest and Jean King, who left the foundation funds from their estate.

A veteran, Bennett said he wanted to support veterans causes, including the local VFW Post.

“Jim (Bisson) has done such a good job showing appreciation for the foundation’s work,” Bennett said.

The foundation contributes to many causes. One project was donating 40 parcels of land for a school construction program to build houses for disabled veterans.

They also donate to or-phan causes and multiple Veterans Administration programs, among others.

Gillespie County has approximately 3,000 veterans who at times need assistance and help with medical, monetary and family needs, Bisson said.

The Fredericksburg VFW Post 7105 assists both the community and veterans when called upon, and most recently helped victims after the Kerrville flood, Bisson said.

Persons who would like to help may send contributions to P.O. Box 952, Fredericksburg, Texas 78624 or contact Jim Bisson, post commander at 512-517-4211.
