Faith Schu, left, was the winner of the Voice of Democracy essay and received a $1,000 check from VFW 7105. Right, Makayla McClintock won the Patriot Pen essay and was awarded $500. Both their essays will advance to VFW District 13 competition. The topic for both essays was “How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country.” Voice of Democracy essays are for students in grades 9-12 and Patriot Pen essays are for grades 6-8.
