The early days of das Schuetzenfest
Shooting clubs in Germany have been around since Black Forest hunters used crossbows and Medieval armies lobbed big rocks at each other with catapults. Those early clubs had a military purpose. In the centuries before German unification, small-town marksmen formed militias to defend their communities from marauders and bandits.
