Living in a poem is the subject of the next Osher Lifelong Learning Institute’s (OLLI) program, which is a generative poetry writing workshop open to those who have been writing for a long time, as well as those who rarely write.
On Tuesday, Sept. 16, the former Poetry Foundation Young People’s Poet Laureate, Naomi Shihab Nye will explore the topic of poetry. She will ask attendees: How do people invite poems on to the page? How do poems help readers see and think about their lives?
The workshop will take place at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, 1800 N. Llano St., Fredericksburg from 2-3:30 p.m. Individual tickets for the event are $15 for OLLI members or $30 for non-members.
Shihab Nye is a professor at Texas State University and has been a visiting poet in many venues all her adult life. She participated in the inaugural Fredericksburg Book Festival, and her most recent collection of poems is called “Grace Notes – Poems About Families.”
