The first Fredericksburg Music Festival and School, presented by Texas Cellos, continues through Saturday, June 21 with public performances and student master classes at five historic venues in and around Fredericksburg.
The event, in its first year, is organized by Joseph Kuipers, the Creative Director of Texas Cellos.
“I want to say this is not the end, but the beginning,” Kuipers said. “Because what we’re doing here is building a festival, a cultural center and a destination.”
The festival and school will conclude on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Historic Nimitz Ballroom with a mass cello choir concert featuring Giovanni Sollima’s ‘Note Sconte’ and concluding with ‘Ode to Joy’ from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. The program also includes selections from Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings and the Wizard of Oz.
The two-week event included a dozen performances by 25 world-class musicians held across Fredericksburg, alongside masterclasses for 15 top international cello students.
