Deputies arrest two motorcyclists for racing on highway

The Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office responded to nine crashes, two major and seven minor. Deputies issued 53 citations, 189 warnings, made 11 arrests and fielded 424 calls for the week of May 19-25.

Drugs/Alcohol

A deputy was dispatched to the intersection of U.S. 290 East and Vineyard Lane for a report of two men walking along the roadway, at 11:23 p.m. Saturday, May 24. One man was wearing shorts and no shirt or shoes. The second man had on a black long sleeve shirt, black shorts and white shoes. After making contact with the two men, the deputy learned the two men were brothers and consumed alcohol from 1-11 p.m. at a local campground on the 10000 block of U.S. 290 East. When the grounds closed, one of the brothers decided to walk down U.S. 290 East rather than get into a vehicle to leave. Bryne Troy Tamney, 22, of Fredericksburg and Ryne Todd Tamney, 25, of Kerrville were arrested for public intoxication. Ryne was located by several deputies and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game wardens near Wildflower Hills. Both were taken to the Gillespie County Jail.

On Saturday, May 24 at 9:10 p.m., a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper, who conducted a traffic stop on the 100 block of West Main Street, requested a TPWD game warden with a K9 to come to the location. The trooper was trying to locate a suspect, who was evading arrest, with the help of deputies and Fredericksburg Police Departments officers. Later, the trooper determined the man ran because he was trying to discard illegal narcotics. Sevastian Ibarra, 24, of Kerrville, was arrested for seven offenses including: evading arrest detention, tampering/fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair, assaulting a police officer/judge, resisting arrest search or transport, possession of a controlled substance and two counts of manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance. He was transported to jail.

On Tuesday, May 27 at 3:13 a.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding on the 1300 block of U.S. 290 West. After speaking with the driver, the deputy conducted a field sobriety test. Gerardo Norberto Velasquez, 46, of Laredo, was arrested for driving while intoxicated with an open alcoholic container. He refused to provide a breath sample, and a blood warrant was drafted and signed by the judge. He was taken to jail.

Other

On Wednesday, May 21 at 10:53 p.m., a deputy was standing outside a grocery store and saw a woman walk inside. He checked for warrants with dispatch and arrested Veronica Barrientes Martinez, 42, of Fredericksburg for two warrants and a criminal trespass warning at the store. The warrants were issued for public intoxication and assault family violence. She was transported to jail.

Deputies conducted a warrant service on a man after recognizing him as he walked into a grocery store at 7:25 p.m. Friday, May 23. Robert Wayne Payne III, 20, of Harper, was arrested on two local warrants for possession of a controlled substance and assault causes bodily injury. He was taken to jail.

On Saturday, May 24 at 6:57 a.m., a deputy was dispatched to the Gillespie County Law Enforcement Center to arrest Duane Keith Blakeney, 72, of Ingram, who turned himself in for warrants out of Kerr County for aggravated sexual assault child and indecency with a child. He was jailed.

Also on Saturday at 11:12 p.m., deputies responded to the residence on the 100 block of Grass Valley Trail to conduct a warrant service on James Roy Robbins, 57. He was arrested on the local warrant for driving while an intoxicated the third offense or more and taken to jail without incident.

On Sunday, May 25 at 2:51 p.m., a deputy observed three motorcycles come to a stop on the 1700 block of Old San Antonio Road. One rider taped the top of his helmet and two of three took off racing, reaching a speed of 102 mph in a 45mph zone. When the two pulled over, the deputy arrested them. Christopher Thompson, 28, of Fredericksburg and Joey Valdez Jr., 27, of Corpus Christi were arrested for racing on highway and taken to jail.

Detentions

On Monday, May 19 at 9:53 p.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at the 1200 block of U.S. 87 South. The driver was identified as Cesar Alejandro Villegas Romero, 28, and was in the country without documentation. He was taken into custody after an ICE Detainer was placed on him by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents out of Rocksprings. He was taken to jail to await pickup from agents out of Rocksprings.

On Wednesday, May 21 at 8:14 p.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding on the 9000 block of U.S. 290 East. The driver, Maria Veronica Herrera Bermeo, 28, did not have a valid U.S. identification. The U.S. Customs and Border Patrol out of Del Rio was called, and Bermeo was placed on an ICE detainer. She was transported to jail to await pickup.
