It’s an intimate music venue that features the biggest talents. And this weekend, the house will be rockin’ with some of the top names in American roots music.
The 27th Annual Texas All-Star Big Band Bash will be held Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 14-17 at the Hilltop Café, at 10661 U.S. 87 North, the venue jokes, “conveniently located in the middle of nowhere.”
Texas music icons and Grammy Award winners are scheduled for the event, which has benefited arts students and organizations for all of its existence. That includes theater camps, school district music and theater camps and writing and design students pursuing their craft. The concert events have raised more than $150,000 for arts programs.
Doors open at 5 p.m. and music starts nightly at 5:45. The cost is $150 per person with dinner service.
Special guests are scheduled to appear at this year’s Big Band Bash. Among those scheduled to perform are Jimmie Vaughan, Rick Trevino, Gary P. Nunn and Los Texmaniacs, along with Johnny Nicholas & The Hidden Charms, featuring guitar slinger Scrappy Jud Newcomb. Also on stage will be The Old Fashioned Aces, featuring David Greely, Blake Miller and Amelia Miller. Katie Shore, Asleep at the Wheel alumnus, will also take the stage.
On Friday night, country hitmaker Rick Trevino will be joined by Grammy winners Los Texmaniacs and Nicholas himself.
On Saturday, blues legend Jimmie Vaughan will take the stage, along with Johnny Nicholas & The Hidden Charms and The Texas Horns, featuring Kaz Kazmanoff, John Mills and Al Gomez.
On Sunday, Nicholas and Linda Gail Lewis will team up for a Gospel Brunch. Doors open at 11 a.m. and a brunch menu with a la carte items will be available.
Hill Top Café will also serve its downhome food during the performances.
A silent auction will run all three nights and will finish at noon on Sunday, Nov. 17. Auction items include Texas music memorabilia, signed guitars and much more.
Nicholas encourages people to come out and enjoy music while supporting a good cause.
“Come on out, get some great music and food and help support the kids,” he said. “Even if you can’t stay for the show, come by and bid on an auction item.”
