State student deficit
Since its inception in 2018, the Fredericksburg ISD Education Foundation has been working to help the FISD teachers and students. The primary objective of this effort is to offset some of the deficit that is created by the Texas recapture program (Robin Hood plan).
This year, there is a $2,000 per student funding deficit in FISD. This is a direct result the state taking back close to $20 million in FISD school taxes via their recapture program. This total is about one-third of the taxes that have been collected for our school district.
Because of this funding shortfall, there are insufficient funds available to help teachers utilize various approaches to help achieve academic excellence in our schools.
This is where the Education Foundation comes in — to raise money to fund teacher grant requests designed to aid in their teaching efforts.
In September, the Foundation awarded 42 grants totaling over $152,000 across the six campuses in FISD. This was a record year in both the number of grants and total funds distributed.
Since 2018, the Foundation has funded over $788,000 in teacher grants.
The Education Foundation has kicked off its 2024 Annual Campaign and is in the midst of this primary fundraising effort. Money raised via this campaign will go towards future creative teacher grants that are designed to help the FISD students.
Please consider helping us help our FISD students and teachers. Our website (www.FISDKids.org) has everything you need to know about this effort. Supplementing the financial support and in turn the education of our students builds for the future of Fredericksburg and Gillespie County.
As A 501C (3) organization, 100% of all donations are tax deductible.
Every dollar helps! Thank you.

Democratic friends…
This election, it’s now or never. We must put our children and grandchildren first. We all have greatly messed up the last four years and more.
I write now and express my opinion because I am free to do so and so are you. I found rather than speak in front of 1,000 people than write anything in writing because once written — as my old friend and attorney for over 50 years says, watch out for the bites.
In my opinion, Kamala Harris does not have the presidential experience on any level that counts. Our country is not ready for a woman president and especially one of this character.
I am voting Republican and my five good reasons are as follows: 1. China; 2. North Korea; 3. Iran; 4 Iraq; 5. Russia.
We, American, do not need to appear weak and at the moment to our allies and other countries, she is seen as weak — now and for the last four years.
The five countries listed, how do they treat their women, how would they view Kamala Harris, as a puppet, a woman to be used and weak.
Please remember, vote for your children and grandchildren.
Thanks for considering my opinion.
