The Fredericksburg High School girls’ cross country team and Derek Adams from the boys’ cross country team will be heading to state this week for an opportunity to compete against the best Class 4A runners in Texas.
The entire FHS varsity girls’ cross country team advanced to the meet after finishing in third place out of a total of 24 schools at the area competition in Corpus Christi on Friday, Oct. 21.
“We are excited for the opportunity and we know we have some work to do the next seven days to prepare for what is ahead of us,” Head Coach Dan Aldrich said.
Rilyn Grona finished the meet with an individual first place run of 12:16.73 in the two-mile run.
Derek Adams of the boys’ cross country team advanced to the state meet individually after finishing in seventh place and qualifying for the state competition by placing in the top 10.
“I know he will be ready to run his best time of the season on that course,” Head Coach Jason Roemer said.
The girls will race at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock.
