The Fredericksburg High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) Agricultural Communications team was named third in the nation over the weekend at the 97th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.
This year’s team included Hannah Nielsen, Bryson Durst, Addison Hahn and Taylor Harris.
Agriculture teacher Emily Skaggs said she is proud of the team’s hard work.
“It’s a really big accomplishment just to get out of Texas, because Texas is one of the largest organizations within [national] FFA,” Skaggs said. “The kids did great, and there was such a sense of honor and accomplishment.”
The team qualified for the national competition after taking home first in the state at the Texas FFA Association Ag Communications Career Development event, held at the end of April.
In the competition, each student completes an individual writing test, then as a team, they write a feature story, lay out a magazine page, produce a video, develop a social media plan and create a communications plan.
The four-person team can earn up to 700 points, up to 50 points per person for the exam and up to 100 points for each of the team activities. Fredericksburg’s final score was 535.
