Supporters filled the Doss Community Center Saturday afternoon, May 18, to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Doss School, one of the oldest continually operating rural schools in the nation. The day-long celebration included food, historic tours, plays by current and former students, a prize drawing and a silent auction. One of the highlights was a one-act play of “The Little Red Schoolhouse” written by Miller Crosby and performed by school alumni. The players included, from left, Jill Eckert Pilcher (former teacher, ’74), Glenda Anderegg Fritz (’65), Kevin Geistweidt (’86), Annabel Kasper Wilkinson (’63), Jared Jung (’84), Pam Geistweidt Riesen (’75), Steve Stengel (’72), David Geistweidt (’83), Bryan Bierschwale (’59), Joann Reeh Rangel (’73) and Neal Reeh (’79). Not pictured are Alicia Hahn Burris (’65), Corine Mund Klose (’62), Ellen Eckert (’75), Kerry Kordzik (’71) and Stephen Geistweidt (’74).
