Students from James Pace High School in Brownsville traveled to Fredericksburg High School for the FHS Jazz Festival held on campus Saturday, April 13. Cheryl and Cesar Flores, parents of bari-sax player Cezar Flores (pictured far right), made the long drive from Brownsville to support their son’s passion. “He just loves playing,” said Cheryl Flores. “He loves music.” A total of 15 middle and high school bands from around the state participated in the festival. The “Big Band Era Competition” was sponsored by the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg. The competition honors the legacy of the USS Arizona and the 21 band members killed at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. – Standard-Radio Post/A. Avila
