The National Museum of the Pacific War hosted its 6th Annual Day of Remembrance in the Nimitz Ballroom on Saturday with a screening of “First to Go: Story of the Kataoka Family.” The film provided a touching and informative inside look at the Kataoka family’s experience of being moved to WWII-era Japanese internment camps. The narrator/main character was documentary filmmaker Myles Matsuno’s grandmother, who was Ichiro Kataoka’s daughter (and who passed away in 2018). Above left, Matsuno, answers questions from the crowd, along with, from left, Ruth Ann Hattori, NMPW marketing director and daughter of a WWII internee, Dr. Lopita Nath, chair of the History Department and coordinator of the Asian Studies Program at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio; and moderator Lauren Kornegay-Dollar, NMPW adult programs coordinator. — Submitted photo
