Leadership class gets an education from Gillespie County schools
The 2024 class of Leadership Gillespie County (LGC) met on Dec. 6 for its fourth session to focus on education.
The class gathered at Lost Draw Cellars that morning with a breakfast donated by Twisted Sisters Bake Shop.
Brian Heath, owner of Grape Creek Vineyards, gave a presentation to the class to start the day with a presentation on leadership.
During the late morning, the class participated in a presentation by a panel of representatives from county private schools: St. Mary’s Catholic School, Heritage School and Ambleside School of Fredericksburg.
Class member DeDe Threadgill then presented to the class on the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce’s iOpener program designed to develop leadership among high school students.
The class then traveled to Bethany Lutheran Preschool where they heard from director Cheryl Flink and Annisa Alonzo, director of Kindernest Montessory School at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church. The two directors discussed challenges that preschool programs face. A tour was also given of the Bethany Preschool campus.
At 12:30 p.m., the class went to Fredericksburg High School where lunch was provided by the FHS Culinary Class, sponsored by Barnes Creative.
Following lunch, the class was given a tour and presentation by Chris Weirich, principal of FHS.
The LGC class closed out the day with presentations by Fredericksburg Independent School District Superintendent Joe Rodriguez and Tracey Robledo of the FISD Education Foundation.
To end the day, the class recessed to a social hour at the Chamber of Commerce to socialize at the retirement party for Penny McBride, retiring CEO of the chamber.
Leadership Gillespie County is a program of the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce in which 20 members are selected to participate in a series of information sessions regarding county government, institutions and businesses.
