Woerner Warehouse will move to a new location near Granite House Lounge near the end of July, according to co-owners Angela Mancino and Jamie Luckey.
Mancino owns Woerner’s, Granite House Lounge and Sunset Grill, which she also plans to relocate.
“We love the warehouse we’re in currently, but there’s no heating, there’s no air conditioning,” Mancino said. “We’ve grown out of our space.”
Mancino plans to move both Woerner’s and Sunset Grill to lots next to Granite House Lounge and her retail store, Woerner Mercantile. Despite being on the same block, each restaurant will have its own building and parking lot, Mancino said.
“Each restaurant is stand-alone, has its own lot, its own parking,” Mancino said. “Woerner Warehouse will have 29 parking spots. Sunset Grill will have 19 or 20 parking spots, and they all have their own identity.”
The new Woerner Mercantile shop is located inside an old craftsman house at 405 E. Live Oak St. in front of where the new Woerner Cafe will be, Mancino said.
“We’ve got it fully stocked with really cool little gifts and stuff for the house and jewelry,” Mancino said. “Our guests can come in there and eat and shop and have a great time.”
The new Woerner Café is fully air conditioned and features two outdoor patios and a private room for meetings or parties. The side of the building features two large glass garage doors that can be opened during pleasant weather or to connect to one of the patios for dress rehearsal or restaurant reservations. The upstairs will host offices for employees and catering services.
While construction of the Woerner Café is in its final stages, the new Sunset Grill is just finding its frame. Mancino said she expects the new Sunset Grill to open early spring 2024.
“With Woerner’s, there were a lot of things that we didn’t know, so it took us a little bit longer,” Mancino said. “But this next project, we’re just moving right along.”
Restaurateur
Mancino first opened Sunset Grill in 2009 after a friend convinced her to move from California. Before opening her own restaurant, Mancino worked for an international wine company and in real estate.
“I just decided I’m just gonna move to Texas and get out of California and I moved here,” Mancino said. “I never looked back.”
Before converting Woerner’s Warehouse to a café, Mancino ran the original feed store for a few months.
“In the beginning, we still sold all the feed, and we sold seeds, feed, gardening supplies, chickens, and it was fun. But we realized early on that we really couldn’t compete with the big-name people like Tractor Supply,” Mancino said. “We slowly transitioned out of that where we were just 100% food and remodeled the whole inside.”
Expansion
Mancino opened Granite House Lounge after her mom convinced her to tour the house in which it now sits in 2019.
“I thought, ‘Oh my God, this is a little gem, a diamond in the rough,’” Mancino said. “We bought it, redid it and turned it into the Granite House Lounge. Then I noticed that the lots behind me were vacant.”
Purchasing and constructing new buildings means Mancino will own the buildings her restaurants are in as opposed to leasing space.
Mancino currently subleases the Woerner Warehouse from Carol Hicks Bolton, the owner of the antique store next door. The warehouse is owned by Bruce Woerner.
“We wanted the opportunity to be able to control our own destiny and have our own place,” Mancino said.
Mancino and Luckey, co-owner of Woerner Warehouse have been friends since childhood, and her friend from California, Sally Lara, manages catering. Mancino’s husband is the general contractor for the projects.
“We have a great team at all the restaurants,” Mancino said. “I have some great staff that have been with me for a really long time.”
