This spring, the Hill Country Memorial Wellness Center is offering an opportunity for youth to hone their safety, child care and first aid skills through its Safe Sitter class.
Classes will be held on Feb. 19, March 26 and April 14 and are open to sixth, seventh and eighthgraders.
Each class will meet from 9 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. at the HCM Wellness Center, located at 200 W. Windcrest St.
Through role-playing exercises and games, Students will learn how to prevent unsafe situations, handle weather and other emergencies, manage early childhood behavior, assess injuries and perform CPR.
Other areas of instruction include diapering and feeding, performing choking rescue and dealing with employers, setting fees and screening job offers.
Participants are asked to pack a lunch, beverages and snacks. Reservations and a class fee of $85 are required in advance.
