The beginning of every football season seems to carry with it a certain amount of angst and confusion.
And the start of this year’s campaign is no different for the Heritage Eagles’ six-man team.
With the recent heavy rains brought on by Hurricane Harvey, Heritage’s Friday visit to Austin Concordia School was turned into a home-opener for the Eagles.
Kick-off is still set for 7:30 p.m. on Eagle Field at Heritage School, located at 310 Smokehouse Road in Fredericksburg.
The events of the past several days have had “no major changes to the approach this week due to the venue change,” said Heritage School head coach Tim Shipman. “It is nice to play at home versus being on the road for the first game of the season.”
The Eagles’ mentor added that his players will prepare for Friday’s game with Concordia in the same manner they would have had there been no hurricane.
“We want to play solid defense and ball control on offense,” he said. “In the end, our goal is to take a step forward in preparing for district games and the playoffs, if we are so blessed.”
