While hunters found a large population of well-fed white-tailed deer in the Texas Hill Country in November, the general season comes to an end Sunday, Jan. 3 for those in the North Zone, which includes Gillespie County.

Constant change

After the third scrimmage against Burnet at home, which the Fredericksburg High School girls’ soccer team won, 4-2, Coach Logan Minshew realized the only constant this year will be change. Last week, he had two players who couldn’t compete against Burnet because they were quarantining due to a coronavirus exposure.

Harper hoops teams take holiday break

The Harper boys’ basketball team, now 0-11 in pre-season play, will start District 29-2A after the holiday break with a home game against San Saba on Tuesday, Dec. 29.

FHS volleyball players pick up academic all-state and all-district awards. This year, 100% of the seniors on the Fredericksburg High School volleyball team made the Texas Girls Coaches Association Academic All-State team.

Coaches associations’ rained accolades on the Fredericksburg High School cross country teams in all-state, all-region and all-academic selections. Freshman Taylor Grona was selected for the 2020 All-State Cross Country teams in the Texas Girls Coaches Association and Cross Country Coaches Association of Texas teams.

Twenty-one FHS football players named to the all-district teams

FFredericksburg High School’s varsity football team players are not only talented but smart, too. They have 21 players on District 13-4A DI’s all-district lists for the 2020 season, five named to the academic allstate and 29 to the academic all-district teams.
