Weather delays start of FHS softball

Wet weather has prevented the Fredericksburg High School softball team from starting regular season games.

Games over the weekend at Lake Travis and a game against Blanco on Monday, Feb. 11 were both cancelled.

The team will officially start the regular season this week at the Bryan/College Station High School Leadoff Classic.

The Billis face Hunstville first on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 9 a.m.

“We will get to see a lot of 5A and 6A schools,” head coach Melissa Hall said. “The best part about attending is we will have great competition throughout the entire weekend, regardless of what bracket we fall into.”

If the team wins, they face the winner of the Klein/ Grapevine game or move into the consolation bracket.

“These schools will have some good competition and pitching,” Hall said.

Despite the delay in the start of the regular reason, Hall sees the tournament as an opportunity to prepare for playoffs.

“Going to tournaments like these force us to compete on a high level for multiple games,” she said.

Tournament results can be found in the Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post Daily Update.

Next up for the Billies is a game against Pearsall, Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the FHS fields.

JV game will begin at 5 p.m. followed by varsity at 7 p.m.
