Fredericksburg Pride’s fifth-grade basketball girls wound up a three-day stint Sunday in the 2017 All-American Sports National Championships in San Antonio by finishing third to match the same finish three weeks earlier in another national tourney.

The AAS national tourney annually attracts boys’ and girls’ teams from the fourth-grade through high school levels from several different states and Mexico.

Three weeks ago, Pride’s fifth-graders finished third among 25 teams from 10 states in the National Travel Basketball Association’s national tourney in Myrtle Beach, SC.

In both tournaments, Pride lost to only one team, the eventual tournament champion, and upset the defending champions in both tournaments.

Pride’s fifth graders finished 5-1 in San Antonio and upset defending tournament champion and favored Team United from San Antonio, 45-42, in a rematch of last year’s fourth-grade championship game.

Pride then lost to eventual tournament champion NTX Tar Heels from the Dallas area, 33-25, to drop into Sunday’s third-place game, which the Fredericksburg girls won, 43-28, over Austin’s Phoenix.
