Loss to Tigers reveals needs; Lions next

Battlin’ Billies varsity netters will serve up action this week in a 4 p.m. match against Brownwood tomorrow, Sept. 1.

A scheduling conflict has moved the contest to Llano High School’s tennis facility from the previously-scheduled site in Mason.

Although Fredericksburg High School Head Tennis Coach Randall King said his Billies played “pretty well up and down the line,” this last week’s 10-3 loss to Dripping Springs cast light on some things the team needs to work on in coming practices and matches.

“Dripping Springs is a much improved squad,” King said, though, giving the Tigers their due. “They picked up a couple of transfers on both the boys’ and girls’ side of the roster that made their depth very strong,” he said.

“We will continue to work on improving different areas” as Fredericksburg takes on the Class 4A Brownwood team hailing from the University Interscholastic League’s Region I area, King added.

“Brownwood has been on our schedule over the last few years,” King said. “They are a relatively steady program.”

The last time FHS played Brownwood was Aug. 18, 2015, when the Billies dealt a blowout, 19-0.
