Local quintet heading to Nationals


Gillespie County will have strong representation in this year’s AAU Junior Olympics on July 27-Aug. 3 at Aggie Stadium in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Aleah Constantine, Anna Gold, Koehn Constantine, Jaycie Constantine and Troy Kneese all qualified after finishing high enough in their respective events during the AAU Region 26 Championships on June 26-29 in Converse.

Aleah Constantine and Gold won the heptathlon in the young women’s and intermediate girls’ divisions, respectively. Aleah Constantine also finished second in high jump, third in the 100-meter hurdles and fourth in the pole vault to qualify in those events.

Koehn Constantine finished second place in the 11-year-old boys’ pentathlon.

Jaycie Constantine won the 14-year-old girls’ pole vault, and Kneese finished second in the 400-meter dash and fourth in long jump.

First through sixth qualify for Junior Olympics in individual events.
