The Ladyhorns from Harper picked up an impressive 15-0 district home victory Thursday over Brackett, collecting 15 hits along the way.
HHS currently holds down second place in the District 29-2A standings.
Next up for Harper will be another home contest when Sabinal comes to town for a 6:30 p.m. contest. The schools’ junior varsity squads will face-off at 5 p.m.
From there, HHS will play St. Anthony at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio at 7 p.m.
Harper 15, Brackett 0
Harper exploded for 10 runs on eights hits in the first inning to virtually put the game on ice as the Longhorns sailed past visiting District 29-2A opponent Brackett, 15-0, Thursday.
After holding the Lady Tigers scoreless in the first three frames, HHS plated five insurance runs in the bottom of the third to end the game at 15-0 under the mercy run rule.
Harper pitcher Callie Koenig went the distance to pick up the perfect-game victory, issuing no walks while striking out seven of the nine batters she faced.
In that fateful first frame, following a Mercy Garcia ground-out, Jayd Esquell and Logan Menzies both reached on walks, then separately scored on singles by Gracie Green and Kaycee Duncan. Following a walk to Koenig that loaded the bases, Green managed to come home on a passed ball to put Harper up, 3-0.
Courtesy runners Ashley Talavera and Emily Freitag were able to score on consecutive base hits by Kinley Burns (a double) and Clare Porter (a single), respectively, to increase the Ladyhorn lead to 5-0.
