Harper girls’ hoops started district with a dominant performance and now face the team’s toughest back-to-back stretch of the season. The Ladyhorns rolled the Center Point Pirates in their District 27-2A opener, 75-16, on Friday, Jan. 10, at home. Sophomore Kylie Wosley led Harper with a doubledouble effort by scoring 24 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, both team bests. Freshman Talli Millican, sophomore Rachel Perkins and senior Gracie Green each scored 12 points. Harper faced its first real district test when the team played the San Saba Armadillos on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at home. San Saba entered the game as the No. 5 team in the Texas Girls Basketball Association’s Class 2A poll. Harper was No. 19, with a 20-4 record, 1-0 in district. Mason is next on Harper’s schedule. The Ladyhorns host the Cowgirls at 6:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17. Junior varsity plays at 4 p.m. Mason, the defending Region IV-4A champs, checked in at No. 9 in the TGCA rankings. Harper takes a break before resuming district play against Junction on Friday, Jan. 24. Game times are 5 p.m. (JV) and 6:15 p.m. (varsity).
